A good fortune cannot outshine a good physiognomy and no matter how good the physiognomy, it cannot outperform a healthy body. A healthy body, on the other hand, cannot surpass a healthy mind and thus the saying, “Words over matter”. This means that everything in life depends on one’s mindset. So, what kind of mindset should we have, and how should we cultivate it?
A person’s words reflect their inner mindset and at the same time, have the greatest influence on their own mind. While words can impact others, they most profoundly affect the speaker themselves, as they are the ones who hear their own words the most.
A human being consists of a spirit, soul, and body. From these, we can draw on the spiritual, intellectual, and physical powers. The difference between physical and intellectual powers can be as vast as the difference between a shovel and an excavator. Likewise, the spiritual power can be thousand times greater than intellectual power.
Spiritual power is the power of words. The Bible states in John 6:63 that, “The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life”. Words are spirit. It is the words that transform us and our surroundings. We are influenced by our environment, and the most useful tool for changing it is with our words.
When I was at a school reunion, a friend, who had walked the elite path in life, asked me, “Han-Gill, you weren’t so smart back then. How did you become the chairman of Atomy?” I responded, “With my lips!” Though it was a joke between friends, it was the most accurate answer.
I built Atomy through words. At the time, the only ability I could use was the ability to speak—spiritual power. I made bold statements such as, “Atomy will rewrite the history of network marketing,” “Absolute Quality, Absolute Price,” “We will compete with major distributors through quality and price,” “We will become a global distribution hub,” and “We will give Imperial Masters 1 billion KRW on a forklift.” All these words have either already become a reality or are in the process.
When words do not end as mere words but are declared and shared, history unfolds miraculously. Formal education focuses on developing intellectual abilities, and some people achieve remarkable accomplishments through physical or intellectual abilities. Natural talent combined with relentless effort can lead to significant outcomes. For those who lack natural abilities or missed the opportunity, however, the final hope lies in spiritual power—the power of words. This does not mean that physical or intellectual effort is unnecessary. It means that when spiritual power takes precedence, even with a lack of ability, one can experience miraculous and extraordinary results.
James 3:4 compares the tongue to the rudder of a ship, small but capable of steering a vessel even amid strong winds. The direction in which we move our tongue determines the destination of our lives. Never let a negative word escape your lips. Instead, set your sails high towards the goal of a “Balanced Life” and embrace the motto, “Make Imperial”. I have visited all of our 26 branches overseas and saw that Atomy’s fair winds will blow even more vigorously across all continents in 2025.

사주팔자가 아무리 좋아도 관상(觀相) 좋은 사람만 못하고, 관상이 아무리 좋아도 몸이 건강한 사람(身相)만 못하며, 몸이 아무리 건강해도 심상(心相) 좋은 사람만 못하다고 합니다. 그래서 ‘만상불여심상(萬相不如心相)’이라는 말이 있습니다. 세상만사가 마음먹기에 달려있다는 것입니다. 그러면 어떤 마음을 어떻게 먹어야 할까요? 사람의 내면을 표현하는 것은 그 사람이 하는 말입니다. 또한 사람의 마음에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것도 그 사람이 하는 말입니다. 말은 타인에게도 영향을 미치지만, 말하는 사람에게 가장 큰 영향을 미칩니다. 자기가 하는 말을 항상 듣는 사람은 자기 자신이기 때문입니다.
사람은 영(靈)과 혼(魂)과 육(肉)이 하나의 인격체를 이루고 있습니다. 따라서 사람은 세 가지 영역의 능력을 사용하며 살아가는 것입니다. 바로 육체적 능력(Physical Power)과 지적(혼) 능력(Knowledge Power), 영적 능력(Spiritual Power)입니다. 육체적 능력과 지적 능력은 마치 삽과 포클레인처럼 수백 배의 차이가 날 수 있습니다. 또한 영적 능력은 지적 능력 보다 수만 배 차이가 날 수 있습니다. 영적 능력은 말의 능력입니다. 성경에서도 “내가 너희에게 이른 말이 영이요 생명이라”(요6장63절)라고 했습니다. 말이 곧 영(靈)입니다.
나를 변화시키고 주변 환경을 변화시키는 것은 말입니다. 사람은 환경의 영향을 받습니다. 환경을 변화시키는 도구로써 가장 유용한 것이 말입니다. 제가 동창회에 갔을 때 소위 엘리트 코스만 걸어온 훌륭한 친구가 “한길아! 너 학교 다닐 때 나보다 공부 못했잖아. 너나 나나 두 쪽(?)밖에 없었고! 그런데 너는 어떻게 애터미 회장이 되었냐?”고 물었습니다. 저는 “조뎅이(주둥이) 하나로 했다! 왜?”라고 답했습니다. 호방한 농담으로 주고받은 대화지만 정확한 답변입니다.
나는 애터미를 말(입)로 세웠습니다. 그때 내가 쓸 수 있는 능력은 말하는 능력, 즉 영적 능력이었습니다. “네트워크마케팅의 역사는 애터미가 새로 쓴다.”, “절대품질 절대가격”, “일반 유통과 경쟁해서 품질과 가격으로 이기겠다.”, “글로벌 유통의 허브가 되겠다.”, “임페리얼 마스터가 되면 10억 원을 지게차로 떠 주겠다.” 등등. 이 말들은 대부분 이루어졌거나 이루어져 가고 있습니다. 말이 혼자의 말로 끝나지 않고 선언되어 공유될 때 역사는 기적처럼 일어납니다.
학교 교육은 지적 능력 개발 중심으로 구성되어 있습니다. 육체적 능력이나 지적 능력으로 큰 업적을 세우는 사람도 있습니다. 타고난 재능과 피나는 노력이 쌓이면 큰 성과로 이어질 수 있습니다. 타고난 능력이 부족하거나 노력할 시기를 놓친 사람이라면 영적 능력, 즉 말의 힘을 기대해 보아야 합니다. 육체적, 지적 노력이 전혀 필요 없다는 말이 아닙니다. 영적 능력을 앞세우면 육체적이나 지적인 능력이 좀 부족하더라도 기적 같은 놀라운 결과를 맛볼 수 있다는 것입니다.
야고보서 3장 4절을 보면 혀는 작은 지체로되 광풍에 밀려가는 배를 조절하는 방향타와 같다고 했습니다. 혀를 어떤 방향으로 놀리느냐에 따라서 우리 인생이 도달할 항구도 달라집니다. 부정적인 말은 추호도 입 밖에 내지 말고, 항상 ‘균형 잡힌 삶’이라는 목적항을 향해 ‘Make Imperial’이라는 돛을 높이 세우시길 바랍니다. 해외 전 법인을 순방하며 2025년에도 오대양 육대주에 애터미의 순풍은 더욱 힘차게 불 것을 확인하고 왔습니다.
