‘How can a senior guy support the younger generation?’
This was the first question that CH Tan, Atomy’s senior mentor posed to Young Members in Atomy Singapore .
These Young Leaders consisting of like-minded individuals who believe in Atomy’s branding of ‘Absolute Quality and Absolute Price’ have come
together to share their passions for the company and what drives them to succeed in this business. As these young members would become the
future of Atomy, it is valuable to know what drives these young generation members, members defined as being 45 years old and below.

The Multi-level Marketing (MLM) business is one that is not new to Singapore as many MLM businesses dominate the marketplace here. However, in our conversation with our young members, Atomy stands out from the rest of the MLM businesses. Many of these members give credit to Atomy’s
free membership in which it is simple and not compulsory to join, thus, making it more accessible for people all around the world to join as a
member and consume Atomy’s products.

In Singapore, there is a belief that financial security can be guaranteed through government retirement plans such as the Central Provident Fund
Scheme (CPF). Therefore, it is common to see the younger generation being ‘less hungry’ to strive for success as they become comfortable with a
regular full-time job and consistent CPF contribution that helps to keep them financially stable. However, CH Tan points out that while the
government is not wrong in its guarantee for such financial security, these schemes are not enough for individuals to as soon as they get to
retirement and thus at the age of 45 there is a need to have a second business.

In this case, Atomy serves to help change that mindset especially for the younger generation, giving them opportunities to be more financially
independent and to take the responsibility for carving their own path in such a business, making them leaders even within such an international
company.

However for many of these leaders, the attraction to Atomy began with their attraction to the products.

Atomy Toothbrush

It all began with Atomy’s toothbrush for 31-year old Mang Yee Cai. Like most people, he used to buy his toothbrushes from supermarkets such as
Giant or NTUC. He believed that since toothbrushes were easy to spoil, he didn’t need to buy one that was too expensive. When he was first
introduced to Atomy’s toothbrush through a friend, he realized that Atomy’s toothbrush was comfortable and nice to use, it was of a better quality and much cheaper than the toothbrushes he bought at the usual supermarkets. Atomy’s products were seen as ‘quite fresh’ in comparison to other products in the retail sector which made him more interested to explore this MLM venture as a possibility for building his own business. This was
also true for 25-year old Benzi Gwee who’s first attraction to Atomy products came when he first tried their seaweed. He found that the products
catered to most individuals and found it easy to find good products in different sectors such as beauty, healthcare, skincare and food.

It is absolutely crucial for Atomy’s members to believe in the products so that they can promote it to other members based on their own testimonials. When CH Tan first began in Atomy, he explained how he first let his own loved ones try the products.

CH Tan: In January 2013, when I began, I first asked my introducer, what are the top items being sold in Atomy? He said HemoHim and Skincare 6. I bought these two products and passed one to my good friend who has nose cancer and one to my wife. I wanted to see if these two products could help my good friend and my wife. My wife would not tell me a lie. She would tell me honestly if the product is good. After a week, my good friend
with nose cancer even commented ‘ I can sleep quite well, my sleep has improved.’ My wife even asked where I got this product. My wife likes to use other brands but she after using the product and finding out about the price and how much cheaper it was, was very supportive of Atomy. When I
told her I wanted to go and do this business, she said, ‘go ahead, I’ll support you’. I think it’s very important that my wife supports me and knows
what I’m doing. Your family must understand what you’re doing and your family also needs to enjoy the product.

Support does not just come from family for these members but it also comes in Atomy’s own structure. Mang Yee Cai comments that in his own
history of having done other MLM businesses in the past, he noticed that it is very hard to start or even convince others that the MLM business is a
helpful way to get started. ‘Most people just want a job and to take a salary, they are too lazy and don’t want to do a second business,’ he quotes.
However, unlike many other MLM businesses, Atomy provides a good support structure for its members by providing continual learning and
training through one-day seminars, success academies and an education center.

Lim Kar Seng commends Atomy’s supportive network. He was initially skeptical of the MLM business where it is seen to be always pestering customers to buy products. However, he notes the difference between other MLM businesses and Atomy where Atomy is one of the few companies that is
an online business, no membership fee is incurred and there is no worry to maintain the account.

Young Members of Atomy Singapore

‘Atomy is about what you want to do, where you can take time to achieve your target.’
In favour of Atomy’s branding of absolute price and absolute quality, he seeks to promote its products because he believes in the products and the way the company operates especially by being internet-based. By being a diverse online shopping mall catering to every individual, it is no doubt
these young leaders in Atomy are active in helping spread the joy of high-quality products at affordable prices.

When Benzi Gwee started, he didn’t know much about the company’s background or future. However, the company’s marketing plans stood out
for him, which was better than other US companies. Atomy started in Korea and has expanded all over the world ever since but its origin in the Asian region brings success and opportunities to many Asians, giving opportunity to young Asian individuals who strive to succeed in this particular
business.
The members attracted come from all kinds of industries, such as Sandy Sng and Serene Soh who are freelance beauticians. Sandy notes that as
she was working a full-time job, it was difficult to commit to Atomy however, as she started using the products she became interested in them.
Being in the beauty line made it difficult for her to promote the products because clients tend to be very particular. However, as trends moved
towards online shopping, Atomy became an easier brand to promote in her line of work as people became more open to buying online. Therefore, Atomy’s online platform made it easier for the business to succeed as compared to other MLM businesses. Serene also notes a similar trend as she shares about being introduced to the products by a friend’s posting of Atomy’s seaweed on Facebook.

Mouth-to-mouth testimonials on the products are primarily how members grow in Atomy. However, it is admirable to see these young leaders
using Atomy as a way to carve out their own success as they seek their own education through Atomy’s educational programs and focus on
Atomy’s business model.

Lim Kar Seng highlights,
‘In Singapore, if it’s a good thing people want to know where to buy it from.’
That is the base in which many of these young leaders build their business from by first believing in Atomy as a brand and the high quality products it offers. It is not about easy money for these young pioneering individuals, instead it is about putting in the time and effort and seeking out
opportunities and making the best use of them.
It is refreshing to see these young individuals who are forward-looking and have an interest in bringing opportunities beyond themselves. For Lim Kar Seng when asked where he sees himself in 5 years, he says, ‘I want to expand this and help out another country like Vietnam, when I am more
financially stable. So I get to contribute and help other countries and other young people in starting this business.’

Atomy too, stands by this vision as it aims as a company to last for a long time and be able to help out local vendors in the region to produce good
quality products by giving them a sustainable partnership.

Benzi Gwee also adds that in 5 years he wants to follow Atomy’s senior leaders, and wants to help the young generation have success in this
company. It is refreshing to see the future of Atomy in such capable pioneering young members, as they are able to draw on the benefits of Atomy
having such a supportive business model and quality products to carve their own success.

However, amidst this all, Atomy is about having a good heart and wanting to help others around.

Young generation leader’s mentor, CH Tan

This is poignant as young generation leader’s mentor CH Tan highlights,
‘As long as you don’t give up. You must have a heart to do it. If you do not have a heart and a good attitude it’s very hard. We are here to
support you. In fact, I get the satisfaction from seeing all of them succeed. It’s not about myself. It’s about taking time. I’m here to support you. Atomy has a good system. We are here to help you and to guide you.’
